The situation
A career platform serving two groups with opposite needs. Seekers want to find relevant roles and track what they have applied for; employers want to post quickly and review candidates without a spreadsheet.
What we found
Most job boards fail on the data model. If a listing is free text, nothing can be filtered reliably, and search degrades as the board grows — which is exactly when it needs to work.
What we did
Listings are structured: role, seniority, location, contract type, salary band where the employer will state one. Employers fill fields rather than writing a post, which is faster for them and makes the board searchable.
Seekers get an account that keeps their profile and application history, so applying to a second role does not mean re-entering everything.
Employers get a portal to post, review and shortlist without leaving the platform.
How it went
One platform serves both sides, listings update daily, and search stays useful as the board grows because it is filtering on real fields rather than guessing from prose.
What we would do differently
We launched both sides at once. Launching the employer portal first, and seeding real listings before opening to seekers, would have avoided the empty-board problem every marketplace has in its first weeks.
Questions About This Project
Structured listings. If a posting is free text, nothing can be filtered reliably and search degrades exactly as the board grows, which is when it needs to work.
